5 WhatsApp settings everyone should know.

Use these features to keep your activity hidden, and declutter your phone storage and chats

  • Hide your online status: Go to Settings > Privacy > Last seen and online. Under Who can see your last seen, select Nobody. Under Who can see when I'm online, select Same as last seen. This will prevent people from seeing when you are online, even if you have read their messages.

  • Stop people from adding you to WhatsApp groups: Go to Settings > Privacy > Groups. Under Who can add you to groups, select My contacts or My contacts except. This will prevent people from adding you to groups without your permission.
  • Leave a WhatsApp group without notifying anyone: To leave a group without notifying anyone, go to the group chat and tap the group name at the top. Select More options > Exit group > Exit. Only the group admins will be notified that you have left the group.
  • Turn off WhatsApp read receipts: Go to Settings > Privacy and toggle off Read receipts. This will prevent people from seeing when you have read their messages. However, it is important to note that this will also prevent you from seeing when other people have read your messages.
  • Make your WhatsApp messages disappear: Go to Settings > Privacy > Disappearing messages. You can choose to have your messages disappear after 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. This can be a great way to protect your privacy and keep your chats clean.

Additional tips:

  • Mute WhatsApp chats: If you are getting too many notifications from a particular chat, you can mute it. To do this, go to the chat and tap the chat name at the top. Select More options > Mute notifications. You can choose to mute the chat for 8 hours, 1 week, or 1 year.

  • Stop WhatsApp from saving photos to your camera roll: Go to Settings > Chats and toggle off Save to camera roll. This will prevent WhatsApp from automatically downloading photos and videos to your phone.

  • Archive chats: If you don't want to see a particular chat in your main list of chats, you can archive it. To do this, swipe left on the chat and tap Archive. Archived chats can be found by swiping down on the main list of chats and selecting Archived chats.
  • Lock WhatsApp chats: If you want to keep your WhatsApp chats private, you can lock them with a passcode or fingerprint. To do this, go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint lock.
  • Enable two-step verification: Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security to your WhatsApp account. To enable it, go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification.

Following these tips can help you to protect your privacy and use WhatsApp more securely.
